Chester Henry Long, Jr.

Chester Henry Long, Jr., 75, passed away Wednesday, August 9, 2023, at  home. Chester was born on January 19, 1948, in McDowell County, West Virginia to Chester, Sr. and Bernice Morgan Long. Chester was preceded in death by his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Charles and Nancy Stringer.

Surviving are his wife, Charlene Long; son, Kevin Long; daughter, Kimberly (Long) Barnes and husband Steve Barnes; grandsons, Charles Talmadge and Asher Easton Barnes, and granddaughter Alexa Rebekah Long; special uncle, Frank Morgan and wife Kathy; step-sister, Lisa Mullins; sister, Mary Lou Baker; cousin, Jackie Kinder; and additional family members.

He was a Veteran of the US Army and a Retired Locomotive Engineer with Norfolk Southern Railroad. Chess was a 1965 graduate of Welch High School and inducted into the McDowell County Hall of Fame for the 1963 undefeated Welch Maroon Wave football team.

A private service was held at Hayworth-Miller Funeral Home with a memorial service to be held at a later date. Hayworth-Miller Kernersville Chapel is assisting the family.
