Mr. Charlie Lee Fulton, 85, of Clemmons, passed away Friday, January 23, 2009 at home of natural causes. Mr. Fulton was born August 9, 1923 in Winston-Salem to the late Elmer Lee Fulton and Julia Marrero Fulton. He graduated from Lewisville High School, where he excelled in sports, and then served in the United States Army 84th Infantry ""Rail Splitters"" Division during World War II in Europe, receiving a purple heart. He returned home January 31, 1946 just in time to surprise his mother for her 53rd birthday. Mr. Fulton retired from RJR Tobacco Company after 35 years of service and was then able to enjoy fishing, hunting, gardening, and traveling. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by two brothers; Roberto Miguel Fulton & Elmer Lee Fulton Jr., and two sisters; Sarah Julia Fulton & Dora Margarita Fulton Rumley. Mr. Fulton is survived by his wife Betty Sue Bovender Fulton, of the home. The two met March 10, 1946 and were wed on September 28, 1946. From this blessed union of 62 years, was born son Steve Miguel Fulton of King; daughters Melissa Lee Fulton Penland of Clemmons & Marguerite Fulton of Lexington. He is also survived by one granddaughter, Heather Lee Penland & partner Neil Whicker of Winston-Salem, two brothers; Armando ""Bud"" Lee Fulton & wife June of Lewisville and David Ruben Fulton of Pfafftown and four sisters; Berta Graciela Fulton Gardner of Pensacola, FL, Julia Rebecca Fulton Priddy & husband David of Hampton, VA, Alicia Maria Fulton Ebert of Winston-Salem, Allie Romelia Fulton Rothrock of Fayetteville. Mr. Fulton was loved dearly and will be deeply missed. A funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. Monday, January 26 at Hayworth-Miller Kinderton Chapel with Dr. Cecil R. Cave Jr. officiating. The family will receive family and friends one hour prior to service. Burial will follow at Westlawn Gardens of Memory, 6135 Ridgecrest Rd, Clemmons, NC 27012. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Elizabeth & Tab Williams Adult Day Center, 231 Melrose St., Winston-Salem, NC 27103.
