Charlie Leslie Dodson

Mr. Charlie Leslie ""Papaw"" Dodson, 87, passed away Saturday, July 26, 2014 at Oak Forest Health and Rehabilitation in Winston-Salem. He was born in Stokes County, the son of the late John Wesley Dodson and Laura Lea Brown Dodson. Charlie was a member of First Baptist Church of Stanleyville and past Sunday School Superintendent. He was a charter member of the Forsyth Lions Club and charter member of the Stanleyville Civic Club. He held several offices in the Lions Club, including a term as president. Charlie proudly served our country in the United States Navy during WWII. He was owner and president of Charlie Dodson Construction, building many homes in the area. Charlie was always whistling and had a story to tell. He loved racing and was a huge Jeff Gordon fan. Charlie was the last surviving child of John and Laura Dodson. He was preceded in death by his 3 brothers, Thurmond, Johnny and Billy Ray and two sisters, Mary Laura and Betty Jean. Charlie was also preceded in death earlier this year by his wife, Jane Armstrong Dodson. He is survived by a son, Wayne Dodson and wife Becky of Rural Hall, a granddaughter, Jena Rhyne and husband David of Clemmons, a grandson, Brad Dodson and wife Emily of Black Mountain, NC, three great-granddaughters, Katelyn Rhyne, Julianna Rhyne and Lisa Rhyne and a great-grandson, Lucas Dodson. Charlie is also survived by several nieces, nephews and extended family members. Funeral services will be conducted 2:30 Friday, August 1, 2014 at First Baptist Church of Stanleyville with Rev. Eddie Honeycutt and Rev. Danny Dodson officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7:00-9:00 Thursday evening at Hayworth-Miller Funeral Home in Rural Hall. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to: First Baptist Church of Stanleyville, 851 Ziglar Rd., Winston-Salem, NC 27105. The family would like to thank the staff of Walnut Ridge Assisted Living and the staff of Oak Forest Health and Rehabilitation for the care shown to Charlie in his time of need.
