Mr. Charles “Charlie” Hubert Pace, III, 80, of Lexington, NC, went to his heavenly home on Sunday, June 26, 2022. He passed away peacefully at Novant Forsyth Medical Center, with his wife and daughter at his side. He had been in declining health for the past year. Charlie was born in Forsyth County on November 2, 1941, to the late Charles Hubert Pace, Jr, and Lottie Belle Jane Blevins Pace. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Jeffrey “Jeff” Pace. Charlie grew up in the Konnoak Hills area of Winston-Salem and graduated from James A. Gray High School in 1961 and attended Wingate College. He was very active in youth sports, serving as President of South League and coaching girls’ softball and boys’ baseball. He also coached at the Tiny Greyhounds, having been a part of the 1974 National Championship team. Charlie had been active in the Konnoak Hills Lions Club in previous years, having served as President. At present time he was a member of the North Davidson Lions Club. He was a member of Konnoak Hills UMC for many years and was presented with a Life Membership by the United Methodist Men. He chaired many golf tournaments for the United Methodist Men. For the past five years he had been a member of Mt. Olivet UMC, serving on the Finance Committee. He loved to play golf and made golf clubs as a hobby. Another love was shelling many pounds of pecans and giving them away to friends. Charlie retired from RJR Archer, with 33 years of service. He loved the annual summer beach trips with all his family and was always at his grandchildren’s ball games and making sure they had enough Gatorade! He is survived by his high school sweetheart and wife of 58 years, Barbara Wright Pace of the home; his daughter, Robin Pace O’Neal and husband, Jimmy of Winston-Salem; grandchildren, Amber Nicole Russell of Winston-Salem, Jacob “Jake” Russell and wife, Kayla of Rural Hall, Haley Pace Boger and husband, Duke of Charlotte, and Carson Lee Pace of Greensboro; an expected great-grandson, Knox Jeffrey Russell; and 2 step-grandchildren, Brittany O'Neil of Jacksonville, NC, and Justin O'Neil and wife, Jessica of Sandcastle, VA. Charlie will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. A service to celebrate Charlie’s life will be held at 2:00 pm on Thursday, June 30, 2022, at Mt. Olivet UMC in Lexington, NC with Rev. Jeffrey H. Sypole officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church from 12:30 until 1:45 pm prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mt. Olivet UMC, 1082 Community Road, Lexington, NC 27295. Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel is serving the family of Mr. Pace.
