Charles Henry Wood

Charles Henry Wood, 94, went to be with God on December 30, 2014. He was born July 19, 1920 in North Wilkesboro, NC. He was a member of Ardmore Baptist Church. He was a World War II Navy Veteran who served in the South Pacific on the USS Waller. He worked for Piedmont Airlines from 1949 until 1985. He enjoyed golf, playing cards, stock car racing, and giving $2 bills to people celebrating their birthday. His family will greatly miss his guidance, love, and generosity. Mr. Wood is survived by his loving wife of 72 years, Jeanette Wood; a son, Lamont Wood; a daughter, Janet Hoagland and husband Thom; two grandchildren, Emily McNamara and husband Paul and Tyler Hoagland and wife Karen; six great-grandchildren, Anna, Logan, Maddie, Smith, Tessa, and Tyler. A funeral service will be held at 1:00pm, Friday, January 2, 2014 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with Mr. Ray Freeman officiating. Burial will follow at Westlawn Gardens of Memory in Clemmons. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Ardmore Baptist Church, 501 Miller St., Winston-Salem, NC 27103. The family gives a sincere thank you to Maggie and the staff of Hospice for their wonderful care.
