Our papa, Charles Thomas Williams, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, January 17, 2012, where he was reunited with his parents, Charles Edward Williams and Norine Nettie Matthews Williams; his beloved friend, Lois Stone; and met his great granddaughter, Erica Dawn Williams, for the first time. He was born on October 5, 1925 in Baltimore, MD. He enjoyed the simple things in life: time with his family, roller skating, going camping, lunch with a friend, and driving his red Chevy Colorado. He lived with a feisty exuberance and had a great determination to keep going against seemingly insurmountable odds. He served in the United States Army during WWII and survived the invasion of Normandy. Following his military service, he helped found William's Grocery in Baltimore, MD. He worked several years as a manager at Food Fair in Baltimore, MD and Winston-Salem, NC. He worked for the City of Winston-Salem, NC and retired from the City of Myrtle Beach, SC. He spent his 28 years of retirement reminiscing about funny stories and sharing boisterous laughter with family and friends, dancing to county music, keeping up with politics, the daily news, and NASCAR races. Surviving are his sons, Robert and wife, Sharon, of Lutherville, MD, David of Winston-Salem, NC, and Daniel and wife, Carrie, of Rural Hall, NC; an honorary son, Sam Burnett; three grandchildren, Eric, Erica, and Lisa; a great grandson, Braydon; former brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Rudy and Lorraine Roginski; other beloved relatives; and dear friends, Joe Sams and Max Ore. He attended First Baptist Church of King, NC. He enjoyed living at Universal Health Care of King during his last year and appreciated the care provided by the staff and Hospice workers. The family will receive friends at Hayworth-Miller, RUral Hall, on Thursday, January 26th, 6PM to 8PM. The funeral will be at the Hayworth-Miller chapel at 11AM, Friday, January 27th followed by a grave-side service at Parklawn Memorial Park. Reverend Steve Gilreath will officiate at both services.
