Charles Blackburn Whicker

Charles Blackburn Whicker, 87, passed away Sunday, December 20, 2009 at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center. He was born December 20, 1922 in Forsyth County to the late William Luther and Teenie Woods Whicker. Mr. Whicker was a member of Friedland Moravian Church where he served on the boards of the church and was chief usher and greeter for many years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corp. He later retired from Hanes Hosiery with 43 years of service. Mr. Whicker loved to garden and work in his yard. Preceding him in death was his wife, Edith S. Whicker. Surviving is his son, Wren P. Whicker of Lexington; two grandchildren, Jennifer W. Winebarger (Gary) of Lexington and Travis ""Pete"" Whicker; two great-grandchildren, Joni H. Winebarger and Garrett R. Winebarger; also surviving is a brother, Donald Whicker of Walkertown. A funeral service will be held 2:00 PM Wednesday, December 23, 2009 at Friedland Moravian Church with Pastor Wally Yarbrough and Rev. Carol Foltz officiating. Burial will follow at the church graveyard. The family will receive friends 6-8 PM Tuesday at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Friedland Moravian Church, 2750 Friedland Church Road Winston-Salem, NC 27107.
