The evening sky was made brighter by the passing and rise of wonderful star in Charles Perkins ""C.P."" Smith on October 31, 2014. Charles will be remembered as an incredible father, connoisseur of great food, avid jazz listener and treasured friend to all who knew him. Charles was born December 7, 1934 to the late Chase and Louise Smith. Charles Perkins Smith was an alumnus of North Carolina A&T State University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education. He obtained his master's degree and an Educational Specialist Degree from Appalachian State University. He retired with 40 years of loyal service from the Winston-Salem Forsyth County school system. Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his parents, and one brother Donald Smith. Charles Perkins Smith is survived by his daughter Tracee Jenean Smith and her son Trey; a son Charles Ashley Smith and his wife Stephanie and their children Eli, Janee' and Kaleel. Also surviving are the mother of his children Lalor A. Smith and very close friends, Loretta Elliott, David Reid and wife Ann, Fred Bowen, and Fran Martinez. The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 pm, Wednesday, November 5, 2014 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Kiser Hospice House, 1229 Statesville Ave, Salisbury, NC 28144, or a charity of the donor's choice. The family extends sincere appreciation to the staff of Arbor Ridge at Kernersville, the ICU staff of Kernersville Novant Medical Center, and Kiser Hospice House of Rowan County.
