Charles Edward (""Charlie"") Robinson, 67, left this world to be with his Lord and Savior Friday morning, September 7, 2012. A life-long resident of Winston-Salem, he was born on June 1, 1945 to James Robert and Otelia Simmons Robinson. He graduated from Griffith High School in 1963 and then spent several years at Western Carolina, enjoying life there as the Catamount mascot. He faithfully served our country for two tours in Vietnam, an act he was always proud of, even in a time when others were not. He worked for Bell South in the Winston-Salem and Greensboro offices for 34 years, retiring in 2003. He was an active and faithful member of Grace Baptist Temple, serving many years as a Deacon, including several as Chairman, but his favorite activity there was singing in the choir. He participated in countless cantatas and performances, His love for music - especially gospel hymns - was evident in every aspect of his life, as he could frequently be heard singing and humming his favorite tunes. In December of 1969, he married his sweetheart, Brenda Plemmons, with whom he would share nearly 43 years of marriage. Their devotion to each other is a testament to lifelong love, commitment, and faith in Christ. Their daughters, Angie Robinson Kimel and Kimberly Robinson, were taught first-hand the importance of faith in God, love of family, and devotion to friends. Possibly one of the greatest joys of his life arrived in July 2000, when his first grandson, Tanner Edward Kimel was born. A joy that was doubled in 2004 with the arrival of Trenton Scott Kimel. His grandsons brought him immeasurable joy and most conversations quickly turned to them. Charlie had a love for camping, and had the chance to take his grandsons on several extended trips including visiting Yellowstone, Colorado, Michigan, and Pennsylvania. Priceless memories of these trips will live on in Tanner and Trenton's hearts for many years. Charlie's absence leaves a hole in so many lives, but his example of faith and devotion continue on. He brought a joyful heart, beaming smile, and heart-warming laugh to every occasion. Those surviving him include his mother, wife, daughters, grandsons, and dearly loved son-in-law, Matthew, who quickly became the son Charlie never had. He also leaves behind his brother, Jerry Robinson of Mebane, NC, sister, Simone Robinson of Sarasota, FL, his mother-in-law, Nan Parker, of King, and many cousins, brothers- and sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces, and other family and friends too numerous to name, but all dearly loved and cherished. A graveside service will be held on Monday, September 10th at 11:00 AM at Parklawn Memorial Park. A service celebrating Charlie's life will be held that evening at 7:00 PM at Grace Baptist Temple with Pastor Ed Sears officiating. The family will receive friends immediately after the Celebration Service in the church Fellowship Hall. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Charlie's memory to the Grace Baptist Temple Building Fund so that others may come to know Christ through the work done there.
