Charles Parks, Sr.

Mr. Charles "Charlie" Wayne Parks, Sr. 86, of Winston-Salem passed away on January 12, 2018 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. He was born on April 24, 1931 in Forsyth County to Ralph and Irene Lee Parks. Mr. Parks was a graduate of Griffith High School class of 1950. He retired from Western Electric/AT&T with 38 years of service. He was a member of Covenant Presbyterian Church where he was a member of the choir, an elder, Sunday school teacher, and was the grounds keeper for 26 years. Mr. Parks was one of the founders and the first president of South Little League and coached baseball for 20 years. He was a master gardener, an avid golfer, and enjoyed fishing. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Barbara Joan Hayes; three brothers, Roger, David, and Johnny Parks; one sister, Margaret Whitsett. Surviving are his wife of 44 years, Barbara Biederman Parks; one daughter, Christine (Billy) Myers; four sons, Wayne (Linda) Parks, Eric (Melissa) Parks, Paul (Cherie) Stuart, Glenn (Debbie) Stuart; eight grandchildren, Brian (Melissa) Myers, Daniel (Rachael) Myers, Natalie (Jason) Arnold, Kelly (Matt) Perkins, Dakota Parks, Mason Parks, Seth (Laura) Caudle, John Paul Stuart; thirteen great grandchildren, Dylan, Naomi, Isaac, Elijah, Zoe, Ella, Molly, Henry, Ava, Grady, Braylen, Riley, and Cole; three sisters, Faythe Landreth, Betty White, Ann (Gerald) Goforth; special niece, Judy Bell and husband Steve; numerous other nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, January 16, 2018 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with Pastor Tracy Webb and Pastor R. Matthew Copple officiating. Interment will follow at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends an hour prior to the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home, 101 Hospice Ln., Winston-Salem, NC 27101 or to the charity of the donor's choice.
