Charles Ellis Morrison, Jr. was born March 21, 1936 in Rowland, NC, in Robeson Co. and died November 5, 2020 at Trinity Elms Nursing Home in Clemmons, NC. He was predeceased by his parents Charles Ellis Morrison, Sr and Rubell Sugg Morrison and his sister Dorothy Reddall (Jack). He lost his 6-year battle with squamous cell carcinoma, starting with the loss of his left eye in 2014. He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Martha Dickerson Morrison, born in North Wilkesboro, NC., a brother-in-law, Jerry Dickerson (Sylvia), and a niece and nephew. Charles served in the Coast Guard 1956-1960. He graduated from Campbell College in 1962 where he began to learn Spanish, continuing to learn in Venezuela where he taught in high school 1963 -1965. He then taught Spanish at Reynolds High School in Winston-Salem until retirement in 1992. He greatly enjoyed reading about early United States and Mexican history and explorers. This knowledge was put to great use when he and his wife took many summer trips to the western states and visited the sites he had read about. Together, in their minivan, they visited all but 6 states, including driving the Alaska highway and making 2 more trips there. They were also fortunate to have been able to take several cruises and visit 35 foreign countries. Charles’s ashes were buried in Rowland, NC in the Morrison plot in January. There will be a memorial visitation at Hayworth-Miller Funeral Home on Silas Creek Parkway on Tuesday, September 7, 2021 from 2:00-3:00 p.m. Masks are at your discretion.
