""I have faught a good fight. I have finished my course. I have kept the faith. II Timothy 4-7"" Charles Lee Melton, died Thursday, January 8, 2009 at Forsyth Medical Center, Palliative Care Unit. He was born December 3, 1923 in Kernersville to the late John and Mary Melton. Mr. Melton was a member of Salem Baptist Church. He was a decorated World War II veteran receiving the Silver Star, Bronze Star and three Purple Hearts. Mr. Melton retired from the U.S. Postal Service after 36 years of service. While in good health, he always enjoyed hunting, fishing and teaching his son how to live and enjoy life. He leaves to cherish many fond memories his devoted wife of 62 years, Lottie Holcomb Melton of the home; one son, Ronald W. (Ron) Melton of Winston-Salem and two brothers, Carson (Myrtle) and James (Pete) Melton of Kernersville. Services will be conducted 2:30 p.m. Sunday, January 11, 2009 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with Dr. Howard Wilburn and Rev. Floyd Boles officiating. Burial will follow in Eastlawn Gardens of Memory in Kernersville. The family will receive friends one hour before the service and at the home at other times. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials are made to Salem Baptist Church 429 S. Broad St. Winston-Salem, NC 27101 or to the charity of the donor's choice in Charles' memory. The family would also like to thank the entire staff at Forsyth Medical Center for the expert, concerning and compassionate care given to Mr. Melton in his and our time of need.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials are made to Salem Baptist Church 429 S. Broad St. Winston-Salem, NC 27101 or to the charity of the donor's choice in Charles' memory.
