Charles Manton, 87, of Winston-Salem, formerly of Dallas, Texas, died Friday, August 6, 2010. He was born November 11, 1922, to Thomas Jasper Manton and Claudia Estelle Garner Manton, in Sherman, Texas. Charles spent most of his life in Dallas, before moving to Winston-Salem in 2002. Charles married Anna Claire Crowe in 1952 and celebrated 56 years of marriage before her death in 2008. They shared a deep love of music and sang in church choir together for decades. He was a lifetime member of the Masonic Lodge with dual membership in the Dallas and Old Town chapters. Charles enjoyed his new home in North Carolina and established many friendships. Surviving are his three children: Scott Manton and wife, Ruyle, of Eugene, Oregon; Glen Manton and wife, Joanna, of Roanoke, Virginia; and Claudia Abbey and husband, Bruce, of Winston-Salem; and six grandchildren, Hillary Manton Lodge, Geoffrey Manton, Susannah Manton, Melissa Abbey, Sara Beth Abbey and Michael Abbey. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday at Augsburg Lutheran Church with Rev. Dr. Ronald A. Rinn officiating. The family will receive friends following the service.
