Charles Franklin Letchworth

Charles Franklin Letchworth, 86, of Winston-Salem, passed away on Tuesday, March 19, 2024. He was born in Kinston, NC, to the late Frank Letchworth and Thelma Moore. He graduated from Grainger High School and received his bachelor’s degree in engineering from NC State University in Raleigh, NC. Later in life, Charles earned his Professional Engineering License. Charles was married to Sue Ann Bland at First Baptist Church in Kinston, NC on August 25, 1963; the couple celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in 2023. He was a member of Ardmore Baptist Church in Winston-Salem. Charles was a kind, loving, compassionate and caring individual. He was devoted to his family and his three sons were the joy of his life. Family time meant everything to him. Charles enjoyed traveling, cookouts and picnics, working in his yard and garden, and “piddling in his workshop.” Charles was employed with Gravely Tractors in Clemmons, NC, which was purchased by Ariens in 1982. For two decades the two brands manufactured in separate states; however, the Gravely plant in Clemmons was eventually closed and both brands began to manufacture in Brillion, Wisconsin. Charles was then employed with B/E Aerospace (now Collins Aerospace), until he retired. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving brother, Larry Letchworth of Lugoff, SC. Surviving family includes his wife, Sue Bland Letchworth; his sons, Michael Letchworth (Susan) of Cary, NC, and Tim Letchworth and Greg Letchworth, both of Morrisville, NC; and two grandsons, Hayden Letchworth of Charlotte, NC, and Grant Letchworth of Charleston, SC; and sister, Diane Richter (Gregg) of Nebo, NC.

A memorial service will be held at 11am on Friday, April 5, 2024 at Ardmore Baptist Church, with Rev. Tyler Tankersley and Dr. Gina Brock officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the church. A private family burial took place at an earlier date at Pinelawn Memorial Park in Kinston, NC.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to Ardmore Baptist Church (www.ardmorebaptist.org) or the American Heart Association (www.heart.org). Online condolences may be made at www.hayworth-miller.com
