Charles "Benny" Lester

Mr. Charles Benny Lester, 79, of Winston-Salem, passed away Monday, November 24, 2014 at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born September 8, 1935 in McDowell County, WV to Wheeler and Florence Cline Lester. Mr. Lester was of the Baptist faith. He grew up in McDowell County, West Virginia where he met the love of his life at the Skylark Drive-in. He worked in southern West Virginia coal fields for more than 40 years until his retirement, and was a proud member of the UMWA Union. He enjoyed four wheelers, fishing, boating, riding his Can Am Spyder and staying connected to his Facebook friends. But most importantly, he was a loving husband, father and grandfather. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 47 years, Ann Lester; and a son, Terry Lester. Surviving are a daughter, Sherri Norman and husband David of Richmond, VA; a son, Jaimey Blankenship and wife Cheryl of McCalla, AL; and another daughter, Debbie Blankenship and husband James of Tuscaloosa, AL; daughter-in-law, Rachel Lester of Charleston, WV; seven grandchildren, T.J., Taylor, Matthew, Alex, Reagen, , Juliana; Kellie and four sisters, Phyllis Stacy , Rita Trent and husband, Ralph, Meladean Roberts, all of WV, and Patsy Gentiletti and husband Carlos of Bridgeton, NJ. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, November 29, 2014 at Hayworth-Miller Kinderton Chapel, 108 East Kinderton Way , Advance, N.C. Burial will follow in Westlawn Memorial Gardens with military honors by the VFW Memorial Honor Guard. The family will receive friends from 12:45 - 1:45 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home prior to the service.
