Charles Raymond Lawing

Mr. Charles Raymond Lawing, 80, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on August 4, 2016, peacefully at his residence. He was born in Marion, NC on August 12, 1935 to Margie Bowman Lawing and William Lydia Lawing. Raymond moved to Winston-Salem with his family in the late 40's after his father's death. He graduated from Gray High School then served his country in the U.S. Army from 1957 - 1963. In 1960, he married the love of his life, Jane Merritt. Raymond's career was with Pilot Freight Carriers. Mr. Lawing grew up Baptist but was a member of Hickory Ridge United Methodist Church since the early 60's where for many years, he served as Church Lay Leader, Chairperson for Council on Ministries, Youth Counselor and Head Usher. He was also a member of the Winston-Salem Masonic Lodge and Forsyth County Beekeepers Association. He was a dedicated husband, loving father, and proud grandfather. Raymond will be missed deeply and remembered for his selflessness and humble ways. Mr. Lawing was preceded in death by his parents; wife of 54 years, Jane; daughter, Elizabeth Davis; five brothers: Alvin, Gene, Milford, Bill, and Paul. Surviving is his daughter, Susan Morgan of Winston-Salem; two sisters, Marie Bowers of High Point and Reba Falls of Winston-Salem; one brother, Hubert Lawing (Mary Jo) of Huntsville, AL; son-in law, Larry Davis; four grandchildren: Merritt and Will Davis, Perry and William Morgan; one grand dog, Millie; precious caregivers, Willie Smith and Dedtra Johnson; also many nieces and nephews. A funeral service and remembrance celebration will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, August 12, 2016, at Hickory Ridge United Methodist Church with Rev. Wes McLeod, Rev. Dr. Robert L. Kerr, and the Rev. Sara Ardrey Graves officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military rites provided by the District 11 VFW Memorial Honor Guard. The family will receive friends in the church sanctuary immediately following the committal.
