KERNERSVILLE-Charles Idol, 82, passed away peacefully with family by his side on January 19, 2012. Born in Kernersville, NC on July 24, 1929, Charles was the youngest of Chester and Leva Idol's three sons. He lived and worked in Kernersville all his life among a close-knit community of loving family and friends. In 1954 Charles married June Tucker and they had one son. In the mid 1950's he joined his brother's business, Farmers Hardware in Kernersville, where he worked for more than 40 years. He retired in 1995 to provide full-time care for June during her long battle with cancer. Charles was good man, a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and friend. Those who knew him will miss his kind nature and good humor. Preceded in death by his wife, June and brother, Glenn, Charles is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Scott and Loree Idol of Raleigh; two grandsons, Tucker and Grey, of whom he was most proud; his brother Garland Idol; two sisters-in-law, Mary Lee Idol and Sue Vanhoy; and several nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00PM Tuesday, January 24th at Union Cross Moravian Church where Charles was a longtime member. The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM on Monday, January 23 at Hayworth Miller Kernersville Chapel. The family extends their sincere gratitude to the staff and residents of Brighton Gardens in Raleigh for their wonderful care and friendship over the past four years. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that gifts be made in Charles' memory to Union Cross Moravian Church, 4295 High Point Rd., Winston Salem, NC 27107.
