Charles Alexander Harward

KERNERSVILLE - Charles Alexander Harward, 86, died Friday, January 30, 2015 at Forsyth Medical Center. Charles was born December 16, 1928 in Stanly County to the late Charley Harward and Carrie Efird Harward.
Charles spent his early years farming and was an avid gardener. He served his country in The US Army during The Korean War. He moved to Winston-Salem and worked for McLean Trucking Company for 17 years. He later worked as a warehouse driver for Stroh's Brewing Company until his retirement; while there he was the president of Stroh's Credit Union, and was the shop steward for the Local 391 Teamsters Union. Mr. Harward was very active in church and his community. His hobbies were horses, traveling and gardening. He was a wonderful husband and an amazing father, father-in-law and grandfather. Charles was a friend to all and loved by those who knew him. He will be greatly missed.
In addition to his parents, Charles was preceded in death by two brothers and five sisters.
Surviving are his wife, Barbara Matthews Harward; two daughters, Shelia Andrews (Gary), and Melinda Klieforth (Eddie Finney); two sons, Dale Harward (Anita) and Philip Harward (Connie); two stepsons, Lee Matthews (Lisa Coleman) and Steven Matthews (Catherine); stepdaughter, April Peters (Scott); seventeen grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, February 3, 2015 at Hayworth-Miller Kernersville Chapel. Burial will follow at Oaklawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6:30 - 8:30 p.m. Monday, February 2, at the funeral home.
