Mr. Charles Edward Greene, 83, of Clemmons died Thursday, January 15, 2009 at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born April 2, 1925 in Forsyth County, the son of the late, Mamie Greene. Mr. Greene was a member of Heavenview United Pentecostal Church. He was a graduate of Atkins High School and attended A&T University. He served with the U. S. Army and U. S. Air Force during World War II. He was an avid sports fan and loved gardening. Survivors include his wife, Shirley Washington Greene ; three sons, Michael Greene of Clemmons, Ronald Greene of Queens, NY and Charles Eric Greene and wife, Eileen of Salt Lake City UT; one daughter, Laurie Martinez and husband, Rene of Clemmons; seven grandchildren, Ian Collins, Ronald Greene, Jr., Nicholas Chambers, Michael Greene, Mariah Martinez and Emma Martinez all of Winston-Salem and Dominic Greene of Salt Lake City, UT; one great grandchild, Arie Greene of Winston-Salem and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. The funeral service will be conducted Monday at 2:00 p.m. at Heavenview United Pentecostal Church with Pastor Harold Linder officiating. Burial will follow in Westlawn Gardens of Memory. The family will receive friends Sunday from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel.
