Charles Norman Gilliland

Winston Salem - Charles Norman Gilliland, 96, passed away Tuesday, April 24, 2012. He was born April 13, 1916 in Danville, VA to the late James Edward and Ethel Brandon Gilliland. Mr. Gilliland was a member of Gospel Light Baptist Church for over 40 years and had retired from Piedmont Coach and AMP Corp. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Nellie Mills Gilliland; two brothers, James Edward Gilliland, Jr. and John W. Gilliland; four sisters, Mamie G. Jefferson, Evelyn G. Jefferson, Virgie Gilliland, and Lillian Gilliland. Surviving are his two sisters, Elizabeth G. Brandon of Danville, VA, and Connie G. Lewis and husband, Herman of West Point, VA. A Funeral Service will be conducted at 12:00 noon, Saturday April 28, 2012 at Gospel Light Baptist Church with Dr. Bobby Roberson and Rev. Frank Shumate officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:00 - 11:30 a.m. Saturday at the church prior to the service. A committal service will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. at Mountain View Cemetery in Danville, VA. The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to all his friends for the loving care and kindness shown to Norman during the later stages of his life.
