C. David “Bubba” Gelly, 75, passed away peacefully on June 6, 2023, at Novant Health Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, surrounded by his loving family.
Born on July 11, 1947, in Lewiston, Maine, David was the son of Charles and Elizabeth Gelly.
David was an Army veteran. He graduated from Northeastern University with a Criminal Justice degree and had a successful career as Head of Corporate Security for multiple companies. He made numerous contributions to his field and was respected by his colleagues for his expertise, dedication, and leadership.
David possessed a zest for life, he loved adventure and exploring the world. He had a passion for running and biking, completing over 50 marathons, including the Boston Marathon. David was also a published author of four books, the Gap series. He had a loyal following of readers all around the country. His many travel experiences and interesting career lead to captivating stories of his adventures. He loved to share these tales.
Family was of utmost importance to David. He was a devoted husband, father, brother, grandfather, and great grandfather. David created a wonderful life with his family, sharing countless memories and laughter.
David was predeceased in death by his sister, Louise; brother-in-law, Maurice Blais; his father, Charles; and his mother, Elizabeth.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Helen; a son, Eric Gelly (Robin) of Charlotte, NC; a daughter, Tanya Martin (Eric) of Winston-Salem, NC; three granddaughters, Mary Ashton Mangum (Joseph), Madelyn Dunmire (Michael), and Sophie Reid; a great grandson, Bankston Dunmire; sister, Claire LePage (Ray); brother-in-law, Bob Labbe (Nancy); and sister-in-law, Sandra Pearson (Jim).
David will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing “Bubba”. His love, compassion, and unwavering optimism will forever remain in our hearts. While we grieve his loss, we find solace in knowing that he is at peace and reunited with his loved ones who have gone before him.
