Mr. Charles Edward Essex, 89, of Winston-Salem died Thursday, August 13, 2015 at Wake Forest Baptist Health. He was born November 23, 1925 in Davie County, the son of the late Charlie Jennings and Martha O'Della Orrell Essex. Mr. Essex was a member of Mount Carmel United Methodist Church. He was a graduate of Shady Grove School in Advance and was a superintendent at Shields, Inc. where he retired following 36 years of service. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Ila Mae Lineback Essex and two brothers, William Glenn Essex and David Essex. Survivors include one son, Larry Essex and wife, Nancy of Clemmons; one daughter, Debbie Williard and husband, David of Midway; three grandchildren, Suzanne Bowman and husband, John and Michael Williard and wife, Mandy of Charlotte and Laiken Holloway of Clemmons; three great grandchildren, Alicia Williard, Alexandria Bowman and Jude Bowman; two sisters, Dorothy McKnight of Clemmons and Ann Foil and husband, Ed of Mocksville; and several nieces and nephews. The funeral service will be conducted Sunday at 4:00 PM at Mount Carmel United Methodist Church with Rev. Dr. Mary Miller officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel.
