Winston-SalemMr. Charles Henry Ervin, 88, passed away Monday, July 22, 2013 at his home. He was born January 24, 1925 in Catawba County to the late Samuel Taswell and Nellie Hedrick Ervin. Mr. Ervin graduated from James A. Gray High School. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army where he served during WWII. Mr. Ervin retired from the Winston-Salem Police Department with 29 years of service. He was a member of Central Terrace United Methodist Church and he enjoyed working on cars. Preceding him in death was his wife, Dorothy Smith Ervin; daughter, Patricia Ervin Bruce and a grandson, Todd Bruce. Surviving is his grandson, Troy Bruce; great-grandson, Mason Bruce; sister, Betty Ervin Bowles and a son-in-law, Roy Lee Bruce. A graveside service will be held 11:00 AM Thursday, July 25, 2013 at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens with Pastor Dave DiMarco officiating. The family will receive friends 6-8 PM Wednesday at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Central Terrace United Methodist Church, 3 E.
