Charles Edwin Snyder

Charles Edwin “Charlie” Snyder of Winston-Salem, NC, went home to be with the Lord on July 26, 2024.

He was born January 12, 1933, to Peeler Nifong Snyder and Lema Irene Shoaf. He graduated from Arcadia High School and married his high school sweetheart, Rebecca “Becky” Zimmerman, in 1954. He spent 2 years active and 4 years in the reserves in the Marine Corps. He then attended and graduated from North Carolina State University. He started with RJ Reynolds Tobacco Co. as a mechanical engineer and rose up through their ranks, retiring in 1988. 

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Becky “Babe” Snyder; son in law, Charles Michael Kerr; and grandson, Charles Forrest Fowler.

He is survived by his sister, Martha Berrier; three children, Vicki Fowler (Stephen), Tony Snyder (Jane), and LeAnn Kerr Phillips (Kim); eight grandchildren, Joseph Fowler, Brooke Hamrick (Cameron), Charlotte Kerr, Logan Phillips, Hannah Ellis (Kevin), Amy Holland (Barrett), Charlie Snyder (Kristen), and Callie Phillips; six great-granddaughters, Adrienne, Savannah, Ellie, Mary Charles, Abby, and Walker; and three great-grandsons, Charles David, Zachary, and Emmitt.

He loved his family dearly. He loved and was very active in his church, Konnoak Hills Moravian, where he served in many capacities. He was a past member of the Old Town Lion’s Club and served on the board of the Special Children’s School.

A funeral service will be conducted at Konnoak Hills Moravian Church on Saturday, August 3, 2024, at 3:00 PM with the Rev. John D. Rights officiating. The family will receive friends in the sanctuary from 1:30-2:45 PM prior to the service. Interment will follow at Friedberg Moravian Church Graveyard.

The family would like to express a special thanks to the Trellis nurses and also to the doctors and staff at Forsyth Medical Center and Encompass Rehab. Also, a special thanks to the HELP’s Program where he was a participant for over 30 years.
