Charles Hubert Dunn

Mr. Charles Hubert Dunn, 81, of Advance, passed away Wednesday, April 23, 2014 at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born September 19, 1932 to Ollie and Nannie Smith Dunn. Mr. Dunn was a veteran who served in the U.S. Army and retired from Western Electric (AT&T). When not working at Western Electric, he helped build many homes in the area. Hubert loved tending to his cattle and was an avid bird hunter, who was known as “Red Dunn” or “Bird Dog”.  He was a faithful member of Redland Pentecostal Holiness Church where he taught Sunday School for many years. He also enjoyed ministering to different nursing homes in Mocksville for many years. Hubert loved going to Andy’s Country Store to visit with his many community friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Mike Longworth; one grandson, Luke Garraghty and six siblings, Gladys D. Foster, Leo Dunn, Cleo D. Petree, Vance Dunn, Ruth Robertson and Gilmer Dunn. Surviving are his wife of 54 years, Norma Jean Longworth Dunn; three sons, Tim Dunn, Greg Dunn (Danette) and Stephen Dunn, all of Advance; one daughter, Jeana Dunn Garraghty (Stan) of Clemmons; eight grandchildren, Brian and Craig Longworth, Ryan and Zachary Dunn, Hannah Dunn, Hayden, Slade and Avery Garraghty; one great granddaughter, Summer Longworth; two sisters, Lynda Gilley (Sam) of Kernersville and Lorene Petree of Winston-Salem; one brother, J.B. Dunn (Gay) of Advance and many numerous nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 26, 2014 at Hayworth-Miller Kinderton Chapel with Rev. Tommy Fuquay officiating. Interment will follow in Redland Pentecostal Holiness Church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-9 p.m. Friday at Hayworth-Miller Kinderton Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the donor’s choice. Online condolences may be made at www.hayworth-miller.com.
