Winston-Salem – Mr. Charles Alva Crutchfield, 82, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 13, 2023, at Summerstone Health and Rehab. He was born on January 19, 1941, in Sophia, WV to Walter Alva and Laura Bourne Crutchfield. Charles retired from both Eastern Airlines and FedEx after many years of service. He was a faithful member of Linville Forest Church of Christ.
In addition to his parents, Charles was preceded in death by two brothers, James Crutchfield, Thomas Paul Crutchfield; one half-brother, Morton Crutchfield; and two half-sisters, Mary Jarrell and Lula Barrow.
He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Darlene Shupe Crutchfield; one daughter, Pam Bolejack (Keith); one son, Charles “Chuck” Crutchfield, Jr. (Jamie); two grandsons, Andrew Crutchfield (Diana) and Kyle Bolejack; four step grandchildren, Cameron Smith (Erin), Anthony Bolejack (Amiee), Leslie Pettitt (Dereck), Clay Bolejack, and Caleigh Witherspoon; eight step great grandchildren; one step great great grandchild; two sisters-in-law, Ann Crutchfield and Mitzi Crutchfield; and close friends, Jim and Mary Taylor.
A graveside service for Charles will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, April 18, 2023, at Eastlawn Gardens of Memory. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Liberty Hospice at 5 East Main Street, Thomasville, NC 27360. The family would like to express special thanks to the staff at Summerstone Health and Rehab and Cassandra with Liberty Hospice for their loving care. Hayworth-Miller Kernersville Chapel is assisting the family.
