Charles Woodfin Cox

Charles Woodfin Cox, 86, passed away Sunday, April 17 at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born October 27, 1924 in Ftn. Inn, SC to the late Arthur Woodfin Cox and Lillie May Hellams Cox. Mr. Cox spent the last 22 years of his life taking around the clock care of his wife, Billie Sue Richie Cox, with complete devotion and unwavering loyalty until she passed just six short weeks ago. He was nominated for Caregiver of the Year in 2007 and was one of the top 10 finalists. Mr. Cox was a former Sr. Engineer with Western Electric Company. He was a decorated WWII Veteran serving in the U.S. Army. He was a faithful member of Ardmore Baptist Church until his wife's health prevented them from attending. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his sister, Janet E. Cox, and sister-in-law Laura Cox. He is survived by his daughter, Linda Cox Johnson and husband, Scott ""Chip"" Johnson of Lewisville; a step-son Gary Foster and wife Beverly of Minneapolis, MN; a brother, William E. Cox of Easley, SC; four grandsons, Benjamin Foster, Thomas Foster, Bobby Johnson and Hunter Johnson; two nieces, Jan Shope and husband David of Charlotte, NC; Cathy Gratz and husband Greg of Greenville, SC; a nephew William E. Cox III and wife Dawn of GA; five great nephews, six great nieces; one great-great nephew and six great-great nieces. A funeral service will be held at 1 PM Friday, April 22, 2011 at Ardmore Baptist Church with Rev. Christa Warise officiating. Burial will follow at Parklawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends 12-1 PM at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Senior Services, 2895 Shorefair Drive, Winston-Salem, NC 27105 or Ardmore Baptist Church, 501 Miller Street, Winston-Salem, NC 27103.
