Charles William Cobb, Sr.

Mr. Charles William Cobb, Sr., 78, of Winston-Salem, passed away on Saturday, September 1, 2012 at Arbor Acres. Mr. Cobb was born on May 4, 1934 in Opp, Alabama to the late Clyde and Mary Nell Cobb. Bill was a graduate of The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. He also played minor league baseball with the Boston Braves organization. Mr. Cobb was a Factory Manager with R. J. Reynolds Tobacco Company. He was also a member of Ardmore United Methodist Church. Preceding Mr. Cobb in death were his parents. Surviving Mr. Cobb are his loving wife of 60 years, Bobbie Hensley Cobb of Winston-Salem; a son, Bill Cobb, Jr. (Elizabeth) of Winston-Salem; a daughter, Connie Cobb Landen (John) of Greenville, NC; four grandchildren, Jay Landen, Will Landen, Sophia Cobb, and Isabella Cobb; one brother, Clyde Cobb (Sara) of Austin, TX; and a sister, Katherine Pursley (Charles) of Atlanta, GA. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 AM on Monday, September 3, 2012 at Ardmore United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jock Ollis officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be sent to Ardmore United Methodist Church, 630 S. Hawthorne Rd., Winston-Salem, NC 27103. The family would like to extend their thanks to Hospice of Forsyth County and the staff of the Fitzgerald Center at Arbor Acres for the care they provided to Mr. Cobb.
