BELEWS CREEK- Charles ""Phil"" Philmore Blackburn, 77, passed away Tuesday, July 29, 2014 at Wake Forest Baptist Health. He was born May 22, 1937 in Wilkes Co.
Mr. Blackburn retired from the United States Navy after 20 years of service and later retired from Suburban Propane after 25 years of service; he also served as Commander of VFW Post 11173 in Walnut Cove.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Ruby Blackburn and a sister, Magdalene Ore.
Surviving are his wife Dot Blackburn of the home; two daughters, Kim (Adrian) Blackburn Hinsdale and Renee' (Eric) Blackburn Freeman all of Belews Creek; one sister, Naida White of Belews Creek; one brother, Raymond Ziglar of Kernersville; four grandchildren, Erika (Corey) Hinsdale-Goldfarb, Brittney (Chris) Hinsdale, Erin (Corbin) Freeman, and Matthew Freeman.
A Funeral Service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, August 2, 2014 at Hayworth-Miller Kernersville Chapel with Rev. Larry Neal officiating. Burial will follow in Gardens of Memory in Walkertown. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Friday, August 1, 2014 at the funeral home.
