Mr. Charles Edwin Bell, 88, of Winston-Salem, NC, passed away on Thursday, April 25, 2024. Charles was born in Dorchester County, Maryland, on April 23, 1936, to the late George and Muriel Bell. He grew up in Eastern Shore, Maryland, and spent most of his young life on the Choptank River, in his rowboat with a fishing pole in hand. Charles lived and worked in Lynchburg, VA. He was employed in the nuclear power industry and during his career he worked on the Nuclear Submarine US Savannah, the Three Mile Island Cleanup, and participated in Leadership Lynchburg. He retired from Babcock & Wilcox/McDermott as Facilities Manager. Following retirement, he moved to Winston-Salem, NC, in 2004 and became a member of Pine Grove United Methodist Church. Charles enjoyed being outdoors, hunting, fishing, boating, and camping. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Patricia Bell. Charles is survived by his wife of 63 years, Betty Lambert Bell; daughters, Betsey Bell and Holly Gates (Tracy); and grandchildren, Sydney Gates, Tyler Gates, and Trenton Gates. A celebration of life service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, May 4, 2024, at Pine Grove United Methodist Church with Rev. Sandra Ireson officiating. Inurnment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends following the committal service in the church fellowship hall. Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel is serving the family of Mr. Bell.
