Charles "Bear" Jenkins, of Winston Salem, NC, passed away on September 29, 2024 at his home.
He was born on September 6, 1948, to the late Alfred and Hyacinth H. Jenkins in Forsyth County, NC.
Charles graduated from East Forsyth High School in 1966. He joined the U.S. Marine Corps in 1967 and served in Viet Nam from 1968 until 1970. He attended Western Carolina University from 1970-1974, before going on to UNC Greensboro from 1979 until 1981.
Charles was the co-owner of Brown Jenkins & Oneyear, LLC Accounting firm in Winston Salem, NC, for 14 years before retiring in 2012. He enjoyed having breakfast with his military friends. Charles and his wife, Brenda, enjoyed going on Land Rover adventures with the Land Rover Society. They also made several annual trips out west to visit several of the church’s missionaries. They enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He loved to read his Bible. He also loved to play Sudoku.
Charles is preceded in death by his parents, Alfred and Hyacinth H. Jenkins.
He is survived by his wife, Brenda Jenkins of the home; two brothers, Larry Jenkins (wife Carole) of Winston Salem, NC, and Ricky Jenkins (wife Nancy Moate) of Monroe, GA; step-daughter, Amy Gardner (husband Steve) of Winston Salem, NC; step-grandson, SPC Eric Gardner (husband Bobby) of Hanscom, MA; step-children, Chrisa Ansley (husband Steve), and Michael Walters of Laurinburg, NC; two nieces, Debbie Linville (husband Mark) of Winston Salem, NC, and Kim Sen (husband Ru) of Chapel Hill, NC; two great-nephews, Andrew Linville (wife Mallory) of Lexington, NC, and Jacob Sen of Chapel Hill, NC; two great-nieces, Elizabeth McKnight (husband Austin) of East Bend, NC and Lily Sen of Chapel Hill, NC; and several cousins. He also had special friends, Blair and Joan Yount of Sylva, NC, Robert and Anne Clifton, and Bart and Debbie Lakey of Winston Salem, NC, and Johnny Shoemaker and his family, Harley and Lisa Beechy of Lexington, NC. He will surely be missed by his family and friends.
Charles loved his church and church family. He attended Currytown Baptist Church in Lexington, NC, where Brenda still attends.
A memorial service will be held at 5:00 PM, on Sunday, October 6, 2024, at Currytown Baptist Church. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. A private inurnment will follow at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Currytown Baptist Church's Missions Fund, 7740 N North Carolina Hwy 150, Lexington, NC 27295.
