Cecil Laughon Rackley

Cecil Laughon Rackley, 76, passed away Friday, May 14, 2010 at his residence. He was born in Alamance County, NC on January 29, 1934 to the late Ed Luther and Noel Inez Laughon Rackley. Cecil attended public schools in Burlington, NC, Dothan, AL and Independence, VA, graduated in three years from Belmont Abbey Prep School in Belmont, NC and also attended Elon College. Cecil served two years in the US Army with an honorable discharge. He was a member of Northwest Baptist Church for 40 years and a member of the Buzzard's Sunday School Class. He was a huge ""Duke Basketball fan,"" as well as, he liked to golf, fish, and garden. He loved all animals especially dogs. Cecil was a wonderful husband and loving father of two children. He loved his two grandsons dearly and enjoyed hearing about their daily activities and sporting events. Most of all, he loved his Lord above anything else. In addition to his parents, Cecil was preceded in death by his son, Tracy Duane Rackley and a sister-in-law, Nancy Newsome. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Helen Taylor Rackley; daughter, Robin Rackley Thornton and husband, David Alan, Sr. of Huntersville; two grandsons, David ""D.J."" Alan Thornton, Jr. and Dawson Trace Thornton; one brother, Dr. Charles E. Rackley and wife, Elizabeth ""Betsy"", of Washington DC; several nieces and nephews; three sisters-in-law, Lucille Marshall, Peggy Booth and husband, Palmer, and Shirley Snow and husband, Keith. The family would like to thank their relatives and caregivers such as CNAs & Hospice for their love and time spent taking care of him. A funeral service will be held Sunday, May 16, 2010, @ 2:00 pm, at Forsyth Memorial Mausoleum Chapel conducted by Rev. Brandon Hudson. The family will receive friends 1:30 - 2:00 pm prior to the service.
