Cecelia Grigg Oakley

Cecelia (C.C.) Spottswood Grigg Oakley, (Age 86) retired office manager of Kinsey-Oakley Insurance Agency, and Director of Managerial Information for Crater District Area Agency, passed away on Wednesday, July 29, 2015 in Lewisville, NC. A native of Petersburg, VA, she was the daughter of the late Dr. Ruth Mason-Grigg and the late John Carroll Grigg. She was predeceased by her husband of 63 years, John E. Oakley, Jr. and by a sister Jean Carroll Grigg.

She is survived by her two children John (Buzz) E. Oakley, III, and wife, Catherine Hubbard, of North Myrtle Beach, SC, and Cecelia Mason Oakley Gray, of Lewisville, NC. She is also survived by four grandchildren: Christopher B. Oakley, M.D. and wife, Heather, of Gambrills, MD; John E. Oakley, IV and wife, Melany, of Midlothian, VA; Jennifer Mason Gray Wilson and husband, Rob Wilson, of Oakland, CA; and Joshua Cleveland Gray of Miami, FL. In addition, she is survived by four great-grandchildren, Brandon Charles Oakley, Savannah Marie Oakley, Jackson Lee Oakley and Ezra Scarlett Wilson.

Mrs. Oakley was a graduate of Petersburg High School, attended Randolph Macon Woman's College and was a graduate of the Pan-American Secretarial College, Richmond, VA. She was a lifelong member of Christ & Grace Episcopal Church in Petersburg, VA, an honorary lifelong member of the Jr. Woman's Club of Petersburg, a member of the American Contract Bridge League, and the American Needlepoint Guild. During WWII she was chairman and instructor for the American Red Cross for the Gray Ladies and served both at Kenner Army Hospital at Ft. Lee, and in Richmond, at McGuire Veteran's Hospital.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, August 14, 2015 at Noon, with interment in the Memorial Garden at Christ and Grace Episcopal Church, Petersburg. Va. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations would be appreciated to St. Clements Episcopal Church, 3600 Harper Road, Clemmons, N.C. 27012; or Christ and Grace Episcopal Church, 1545 S. Sycamore St., Petersburg, Va. 23803; or Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, N.C. 27103.
