Catherine Hudson Smith

Smith Mrs. Catherine Hudson Smith, 80, passed away Saturday, January 28, 2012, at Wake Forest Baptist Health. She was born in Lumberton, NC, to Isham Barney and Eleanor Chowning Hudson, Sr. Mrs. Smith grew up in Andrews, NC, where her father was Superintendent of Schools and her mother was a teacher. She attended Lumberton High School and graduated from Women's College in Greensboro. She met her husband of 58 years, Bobby Jones Smith, while attending college. They were married in Lumberton on January 24, 1954. Mrs. Smith worked as a teacher at Clemmons High School for several years and later as a medical secretary in Winston-Salem. She retired from the Blumenthal Jewish Home in Clemmons as the Crafts Director, a job she truly enjoyed. Mrs. Smith was very creative and loved to paint and make jewelry, as well as play the piano. In her spare time, she enjoyed dancing, ballroom and square, with her husband. She also enjoyed spending time with her dogs. Mrs. Smith will be remembered for her kind spirit and as a person who enjoyed doing things for others. She was preceded in death by her parents; and a brother, Marks D. Hudson. Mrs. Smith is survived by her loving husband; two daughters, Sandra Smith White and husband Eddie, and Lisa Cathryn Smith and partner Michael Duggins, all of Farmington; a brother I.B. Hudson, Jr., and wife Connie of Raleigh; and a sister-in-law, Becky Hudson of Canton, GA. A funeral service will be conducted 2:00 pm Tuesday, January 31, 2012, at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with the Rev. Ruby Davis officiating. Burial will follow at Forsyth Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
