Catherine Mears

Kernersville – Mrs. Catherine Rice Mears, 97, passed away Sunday, October 10, 2021, at Moses Cone Hospital. She was born June 8, 1924, to the late Albert Ross Rice and Treva Fern Long Rice. Catherine was the third of seven children. She was a lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and retired from Gilbarco. She was preceded in death by her sister, Laura Sapp and her husband Donald, her four brothers: Roland Rice and his wife Louise, W.A. Rice and his wife Norris, Max Rice and his wife Wilma, and Larry Joe Rice. Surviving are her loving daughter, Cindy Morton of the home, one sister, Patty Sue Idol, and husband Richard of Kernersville, three grandchildren, Aaron Morton and wife Melinda of Greensboro, Christy Turner and husband Brian of Ohio, and Brian Morton of Ohio, five greatgrandchildren, Michael and Megan Turner of Ohio, Andrew and Emilie Morton of Greensboro, LeeAnn Morton of Ohio, and many special nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be held 3:00 PM Saturday, October 16, 2021, at Sandy Ridge Cemetery with Elder Billy Rice officiating and Bishop Pool dedicating the grave. Hayworth-Miller Kernersville Chapel is assisting the Mears family.
