It is with love and sadness, we share the news that Carrie Sue Whitley Satterfield released her body into God’s hands on Monday, February 21, 2022 in Sarasota, FL.
Carrie was born in Winston-Salem, North Carolina on October 31, 1930 to the late Lytle and Gladys Whitley. Her life was devoted to her family. She was a loving mother and a doting grandmother, great-grandmother, and aunt. She was a natural Mom. She never failed to smile at the sight of a child. She delighted in her family and was a ready retreat for any of her family. Her home was a favorite location for neighborhood children.
Carrie was the consummate southerner. You didn’t enter her home without her inquiring “if she could get you something?”. This continued well past the time she could stand, but it didn’t matter, it was her way of making sure you were treated with kindness and respect.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Lytle Whitley; and her sister, Doris Sloan.
Carrie was the beloved mother of Pamela Satterfield, Sharon Whitfield, and Billie Sue Satterfield; the beloved grandmother of Justin Wiechart and Ashley Morrow; the beloved great-grandmother of John Wiechart, Keith Wiechart, and London Morrow; a beloved Aunt to her many nieces and nephews and was a second mother, to her niece, Vivian Shields.
We thank all of the wonderful staff of Hospice of Tidewell who held our hands and hearts through her care.
A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, March 8, 2022 at 10:00 AM at New Philadelphia Moravian Church Graveyard, with The Rt. Rev. Sam Gray officiating.
It would have been Carrie’s wish than any memorial donations be done for the benefit of a child.
