Carolyn Burke Whitler, 79, died peacefully in her sleep early on Wednesday, February 18, 2015 at Arbor Acres.
Born July 23, 1935 in Salisbury, NC the third child of Claude Murray Burke and Esther Camp Burke. She graduated with honors from Boyden High School in Salisbury, NC.
Carolyn was employed by Southern Bell for twenty years before she retired in 1991. She was a member of Ardmore United Methodist Church for fifty years. She enjoyed playing bridge, needlework, and cooking. She loved her family and spending time at her home in Beaufort, NC.
Surviving are her son Jim Whitler Jr of Winston-Salem; daughters Diane Gries and husband Rick of Belmont, Alice Farmer and husband Curt of Dallas, TX., Beth Buresh and husband Sheldon of Winston-Salem; grandchildren Jason Whitler and wife Joanna, Katie, Allison and Jack Farmer, Emily, Calista and Kaylea Gries, and Stephanie Stewart and Whitler Buresh; brother Murray Burke and wife Linda; sister Martha Perkins and husband Tom; sister-in-law Mary Whitler; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by loving husband of 57 years, James Anglin Whitler and her sister Sarah Constance Burke.
Service and Visitation: A Memorial Service will be held Friday, February 20 at 1 p.m. at Ardmore United Methodist Church 630 S Hawthorne Rd, Winston-Salem. The family will greet friends immediately after the service at the church.
