OAK RIDGE-Carolyn James Pullen, 87, passed away Thursday May 28, 2015 following an extended illness. She was born December 15, 1927 in Memphis, TN to the late Benjamin Harrison James and Jimmie Surratt James. Ms. Pullen was a member of Main Street United Methodist Church in Kernersville, NC and a member of the Boyd Stafford Sunday school class. Carolyn was retired from the U.S. Corp of Engineers after over 27 years of employment. She enjoyed cooking and being involved with her family. She was a devoted mother and grandmother. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Harry Pullen. Surviving are her son, Stan Pullen and wife, Gina of Oak Ridge, NC; three grandsons, Andy Pullen and wife, Jena of Chantilly, VA, Jeff Pullen and wife, Melissa from Ashburn, VA, and Chase Pullen and fiancée, Lindsay Toia of Kernersville, NC; three sisters, Edwina Pinnell of Memphis, TN, Kathryn Fillman of Houston, TX, and Peggy James of Memphis, TN; her niece, Jan Perry and husband, John of Jonesborough, TN. A Funeral Service will be conducted at 11:30 a.m. Monday, June 1, 2015 at Main Street United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:30 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to either Main Street United Methodist Church 306 S. Main Street, Kernersville, NC 27284 or Oak Ridge United Methodist Church 2424 Oak Ridge Road, Oak Ridge, NC 27310. Hayworth Miller Kernersville Chapel is assisting the Pullen family.
