Carolyn Head

Mrs. Carolyn Jean Higdon Head, 89, of Winston-Salem, NC, passed away Monday October 3, 2022, at Bermuda Village Retirement Community.

Carolyn was born on August 7, 1933, to the late Joseph Hidgon, Sr. and Edith Lee Johnson Higdon in Sacramento, California.

She attended St. Paul’s Episcopal Church for many years. Throughout her life, she took much pride in cooking for her family, with her best meals being spaghetti and Chinese. Carolyn also enjoyed crafting, gardening in her flowers while watching the birds and squirrels, and reading a good book for hours until she was able to finish.

Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents; her brother Joseph Higdon Jr.; her daughter, Holly Cruickshank; and her son, Jay Poston.

Her surviving family members include her sister Emma Lee Henry, daughter, Ann (Scott) Briggs; son, John (Susan) Head; stepson, William (Debi) Head; son-in-law, Ron Cruickshank; five grandchildren, Blade Cruickshank (Valeriia) Emily Williams, Cameron (Alyssa) Williams, Emilee Briggs, and Lynn (Richard) Phifer; and one great-grandson, Isaac Phifer and many nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held for Carolyn on Saturday, October 22, 2022, at 1:00 PM at Green Hills Cemetery in Asheville, NC, with Pastor J. Clarkson officiating.
