Carolyn R. Harper passed away peacefully in her sleep on September 3, 2009 after several years of declining health. She was born on April 7, 1931 to Gus & Madge B. Rockett. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Bonnie Lee Whicker, and 2 sons, Terry Gray Whicker and Anthony Glenn Carrizzo. She is survived by a daughter, Robin G. Whicker, of Yadkinville; a son, Michael S. Whicker (Pam) and grandson, Justin Whicker, all of Houston, TX. Ms. Harper worked at The Hilton Inn in Winston-Salem for a number of years. She was a gifted poet, an avid reader and a staunch Democrat. She also leaves behind her dear friends, Lou Ferrell, Roby Draughn, Arlene Watkins, and Ralph Holzer. A special ""Thank You"" to her caregiver, Mona Lisa Freeman for her kind and compassionate care over the last year. I am so sad that you have left me, but I take comfort in the fact that you are now at peace. I love you Mom. I always have and I always will. A celebration of her life will be held at a later date. ""Nocturne"" With Darkness all around me, My thoughts come out to play; My Dreams, my Fears, my Wasted years That hide, by light of day. In Sorrow, Grief, and longing, My Soul cries out in pain; In this Blackness that engulfs me, My cries are all in vain. By day my thoughts return again To their ""Chamber of Despair""; By Day I can refute them And keep them hidden there. I resolve to face the future; The past is locked up tight: Only to return again When Day gives in to Night. Is this Torment never ending? This Hell beyond compare? Perhaps in Death, my Soul shall rest And find it's Solace there. By, Carolyn Rockett Harper
