Carol Elizabeth “Beth” Wilson Tsiolkas died peacefully on January 12, 2022, at her home in Clemmons, NC, at the age of 61. She was born in Louisville, KY, on February 7, 1960, to the late Dr. Joe Leon “J.L.” Wilson and Alice Gardner Wilson. She graduated with a BA in Business from Oklahoma Baptist University in 1982.
Beth spent much of her childhood in Bangkok, Thailand, where her parents served as missionaries. She then lived in Grandview, MO, and Shawnee, OK, before moving to Winston-Salem, NC, in 1982. She worked for several years at Walker and Associates, reaching the level of Director of Inside Sales. Later, she held other marketing and sales positions until her health no longer permitted her to do so.
Beth was diagnosed with Primary Progressive Multiple Sclerosis (PPMS) in 2004. PPMS is a chronic, non-remitting disease for which there is no cure. The disease wore down her body but not her spirit. Beth accepted her diagnosis with extraordinary grace and dignity throughout the years following her diagnosis.
Beth was a loyal friend and devoted family member. She was known for her warm smile, generous hospitality, and sense of humor. Friends have described her as confident, fun-loving, and strong-willed. She loved animals, particularly her cats and her dog “Jazz”. She enjoyed traveling, gourmet cooking, celebrations, and music. Although her ability to socialize diminished as her disease progressed, she continued to greet everyone who visited with a smile and a laugh.
Beth is survived by her husband George Tsiolkas; her sister, Debbie Newsome (David); a nephew, David Newsome, Jr. (Emily); a niece, Jennifer Haeberle (Hunter); and a great-niece. George’s family also joins them in their grief.
Our family is extremely grateful to George Tsiolkas for his devoted commitment to Beth. He deeply loved Beth and cared for her tenderly during the last 9 years of her life. We also appreciate the extended Tsiolkas family for surrounding Beth with their love. Thank you, as well, to the staff at Trellis Supportive Care for their support during Beth’s final weeks.
A celebration of Beth’s life is scheduled for January 23, 2022, at 6:00 PM at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel, 3315 Silas Creek Pkwy., with the Rev. Tyler Tankersley of Ardmore Baptist Church officiating. The family will greet friends after the service and will follow COVID protocol. Masks and social distancing are required.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the National MS Society or the Forsyth Humane Society. Online condolences may be expressed at www.haywood-miller.com.
