Carol Putnam Grubbs, a dedicated teacher and librarian in the Winston-Salem /Forsyth County Schools community, passed away on June 13, 2023. She was born on November 9, 1939, in Forsyth County, NC.
Throughout her career in education and literature, Carol lived a life full of passion and perseverance. Her commitment to instilling knowledge and encouraging growth in both her students and colleagues was reflected in the relationships she built over the years.
Outside of work, Carol was devoted to her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her love for them was immeasurable, and she cherished every moment spent with them. In addition to being a caring mother and grandmother, Carol was an avid Bridge player who enjoyed delivering Meals on Wheels and traveling the world with Topsail Beach being one of her favorite places. She had a particular love for hummingbirds and poodles. Carol was an avid fan of UNC athletics.
Carol's memory will be cherished by those who knew her personally or professionally. Her impact on those whose paths she crossed will be felt for years to come.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Elmer and Ruth Smith Putnam as well as Dexter Kale who was the "Love of her Life" and Ronald Grubbs, father of her children.
Carol is survived by her two children Beth Fowler and Lance Grubbs along with their spouses Steve and Natalie of Walkertown, respectively. She is also survived by her sister Patsy Montague of Long Beach, CA as well as five beloved grandchildren: Hunter Grubbs (and wife Jessica), Jordan Horton (and husband Jared), Chelsea Arey (and husband Sam), Erin Bennink (and husband Tristan), Olivia Baugher (and husband Caleb), three adored great-grandchildren: June Arey, Summer Bennink; with one great-grandchild on its way, Daniel Grubbs and special nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will take place on June 24th at 11am in Love's United Methodist Church Cemetery in Walkertown, NC, with visitation taking place afterwards at the same location.
In honor of Carol's life, the family kindly asks that memorial donations be made to Trellis Supportive Care, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27103. Her legacy will always be remembered as one of kindness, generosity, and love towards all those she met in her life journey. Hayworth-Miller Kernersville Chapel is assisting the family.
