Carol De La Torre

Carol Mae Studwell de la Torre, 87, died peacefully at home on November 8, 2021. Carol was born in Stamford, Connecticut on May 13, 1934, to Marjorie Odell and George Edwin Studwell. Carol was the middle child of five, with two older brothers, Bill and Donald, and two younger sisters, Judy and Margie. She attended Stamford High School and the Hartford Hospital School of Nursing.  At 22, she met and married a young neurosurgical resident from Cuba, Ernesto Esteban de la Torre.  They moved to Winston-Salem in 1956, where they raised their seven children: Fe de la Torre, Peggy Joubert (Michael), Patti de la Torre, Laurie Armstrong (Martin), Lindy Cash (Alan), Elena Corbin (Lee) and Ernie de la Torre (Kathleen). She enjoyed playing tennis, bowling and traveling. Carol was a member of the Women's Medical Auxiliary of Forsyth County and served as a docent at Reynolda House Museum of American Art. Carol later trained in massage therapy and channeled her nursing skills in that capacity for many years. She made friends easily and valued them all. She will be greatly missed. Carol was preceded in death by her parents; her daughter, Patti; her brothers; and her younger sister, Margie. She was a loving mother and was proud of her children, their spouses, her 15 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. A graveside memorial service will be held at 1:00 PM on Sunday, November 14, 2021 at Salem Cemetery, with Chaplain Beverly Fulbright officiating. Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel is assisting the de la Torre family. Online condolences may be made at www.hayworth-miller.com
