Carmel Fishel Livengood, 94, of Winston-Salem, died Wednesday, Nov. 2, 2011. She was born in Forsyth County on October 10, 1917 to Bettie Mize Fishel and David E. Fishel. She was a graduate of Griffith High School, class of 1934. Carmel was married to the late Clarence Jerome Livengood, Jr. on August 14, 1937. They spent 67 wonderful years together. She was the owner and operator of Carmel's Beauty Shop for 55 years. Carmel was a lifelong member of Friedberg Moravian Church and an eighth generation descendant of Adam Spach, the founder of Friedberg Moravian. At Friedberg she taught Sunday School from the age of 16, played the piano, was a member of Circle #1, and in 1994 was selected Outstanding Woman at Friedberg Moravian Church for all her years of unselfish devotion. She was a member of the Forsyth County Extension and Community Association, Griffith Club, and in 2010 she received a Service Longevity Award for her 60 years of leadership and dedication. She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Luna Fishel; her brother, Elra Fishel; and her grandson, Scott Livengood. She leaves her daughter Linda L. (Michael) Creed of Raleigh; son, C. Jerome Livengood of Winston-Salem; daughter-in-law, JoAnne Marshall Livengood of Winston-Salem; four grandchildren, Grant (Martha) Livengood, Jamison Livengood, Derek Creed (Carmen Brainard), and Catherine (Scott) Coury; five great grandchildren, Abigail Livengood, Marshall Livengood, Samuel Livengood, Mason Coury, and Madison Mae Coury. Ma Carmel was also blessed to have Bonnie and Joe Landreth who loved and cared for her as their own mother. Ma Carmel's greatest joy came by cooking and entertaining family, friends, and anyone who happened to be lucky enough to be in Carmel's kitchen at meal time. The funeral will be at Friedberg Moravian Church at 11:00 AM on Saturday, Nov. 5, 2011 with the Reverend G. Thomas Shelton, the Reverend James Newsome, and the Reverend Norwood Green officiating. Burial will follow in the church graveyard. The family will receive friends in the church fellowship hall following the services. The family expresses heartfelt appreciation to the staff at Homestead Hills for the love and care given while she made her home there.
