OAK RIDGE - Carl Wayne Spencer entered heaven on Monday, September 16th, 2024. He was born in Guilford County to the late Ruby Overby Spencer while his father, the late William Ray Spencer, was serving in the US Army during WWII. “Wayne” as his family knew him, joined the US Air Force at 18, and became a technology expert in radar. After marrying Ann in Kernersville, he went to work for Westinghouse Electric out of Baltimore, MD and traveled to over 40 sites across the US and Canada upgrading the US defense system equipment. They settled in Alamance County, where he was part of a team handling computer service over central NC, later returning to Guilford County and doing contract work at Sara Lee and WFBM in Winston-Salem. His love of the outdoors led him to a position with Kernersville Lake Park, where he worked until age 75.
Carl is survived by his loving wife, Ann Spencer; two daughters, Janet (Walter) and Dana (Kevin); and a son, Michael (Andrea); 11 grandchildren, Amalie, Langston, Lauren (Billy), Noah, Maggie, Chloe, Zephan (Amanda-Joi) ), Isaac (Danielle), Della, Emma Leigh and Jordan; three great grandchildren, Rivers, Finley, and Cara; and three brothers, Bob, John Alex and Jerry.
The visitation for friends and family will be on Saturday, September 21, 2024, from 9:00 – 11:00 a.m. at Hayworth-Miller Kernersville Chapel. A private burial will be held later for the immediate family.
The family wishes to thank all those in the supportive care rolls that helped make each day meaningful for Carl. And we also wish to thank his friends and family who have meant so much to him throughout the years for joining us in this celebration of his life.
For anyone wanting to honor Carl with a gift, may we suggest helping the Shepherd Center of Kernersville where he enjoyed fellowship and activities or the Alzheimer's Association/Western Carolina Chapter which helped me in many ways.
