Mr. Carl Wesley Smith, 78, passed away peacefully Thursday, April 18, 2013 at his home in Clemmons. He was born in Stokes Co. on October 11, 1934 the son of the late Leo and Rachel Smith. Carl grew up in Westfield and graduated from Nancy Reynolds High School. He received an honorable discharge from the United States Army for his service to his country. Carl retired from Salem Carpet Mills in Winston-Salem and was long-time member of Germanton Baptist Church. He loved to play golf and did so as long as his health permitted. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Juanita Foster Smith and a sister, Ruth Emma Smith. Carl is survived by a sister, Elaine Bowman of Mt. Airy; two nephews, Jim Bowman of Winston-Salem and Terry Bowman of South Carolina and a sister-in-law, Billie Foster Kern of Winston-Salem. Carl is also survived by a niece, Beth Wright, who was very special to him and Juanita. Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 Sunday, April 21, 2013 at Germanton Baptist Church with Pastor Jeff Stephens officiating. Private committal will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the church sanctuary. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to; Clemmons Village 1 Activity Fund, 4201 Holder Rd., Clemmons, NC 27012. The family would like to thank all the residents and the exceptional staff at Clemmons Village 1 who loved Carl and gave him remarkable care. The family also thanks Hospice which assured not only his physical comfort but his and the family's spiritual wellbeing.
