WINSTON SALEM - Mr. Carl Asbury Purvis, 87, died Tuesday, October 23, 2012, at Forsyth Medical Center. Carl was born March 18, 1925 in Moore County to the late E. E. and Annie Craven Purvis. He was a WWII Veteran serving in the US Navy from 1943 - 1946. Carl retired in 1984 from Cone Mills after 44 years of service and was a member of Union Cross Baptist Church. He was a Mason for 60 years where he served 8 years as treasurer at Oak Island Blue Lodge. He was also a Shriner since 1982. Carl loved landscaping, golf and especially, his cat 'Sam.' In addition to his parents, Carl was preceded in death by a brother, Junior Purvis; and a sister, Ruby Purvis Haigler. Surviving are his wife, Nancy Osborne Purvis; one daughter, Carolyn Leigh Caudle (Michael); two stepsons, Bruce E. Broadstreet (Melissa) and Bart A. Broadstreet (Dottie); one grandson, Christopher R. Caudle (Jennifer); two step grandsons, Joshua Broadstreet (Jodie) and Jacob Broadstreet; one step granddaughter, Amanda Simpson (Brian); four great grandchildren; one brother-in-law, Bryant Haigler; two sister-in-laws, Faye Osborne Manuel (Roy) and Betty Osborne Barrow; and three 'special country cousins' and their spouses. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am Friday, October 26, 2012 at Hayworth-Miller Kernersville Chapel with Rev. Mark Ashworth officiating. Burial will follow at Eastlawn Gardens of Memory.
