Carl Melvin Porter, 76, passed away October 4, 2012 at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born August 10, 1936 in Forsyth County to the late Avery J. Porter and Octola Gates Porter. He was a graduate of Griffith High School and served in the U.S. Air Force. He was a member of the Konnoak Hills Lions Club, the Winston-Salem and Forsyth County Shriners, and the West Bend Lodge #434. Mr. Porter was owner of Porter Electric Corporation. He was an extraordinary man that could always make you smile. He never met a stranger and was always there to help his friends with anything he could. Mr. Porter was preceded in death by his brothers and sister, Earl Porter, Daisy Emory, and John Porter. He is survived by his loving wife, Gail M. Porter of the home; a daughter, Carlene Grimes and husband Wayne of Winston-Salem; two sons, Thurman Porter and wife Vickie of Clemmons and Steve Porter and wife Edna of Yadkinville; seven grandchildren; Scott Porter, Melissa Higgs, Kimberly Marshall, Michael Porter, Courtney Ferree, Amanda Porter and Kendall Glass; and 21 great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at 5:00pm, Sunday, October 7, 2012 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with the Rev. Norwood Green officiating.
