Mr. Carl Monroe Hobson, 91, of Winston-Salem, died Friday October 19, 2012 at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born November 16, 1920 in Yadkin County to Luther and Emma Brown Hobson. Mr. Hobson served in the US Army during World War II. He served under General George Patton in the 10th Armored Division and 21st Tank Battalion. Mr. Hobson fought in the Battle of the Bulge at Bastogne. He was a Purple Heart recipient and retired from Carolina Steel. He was preceded in death by his parents, 9 sisters, 1 brother, a grandson, Brian Michael Scott, and a son-in-law, Jimmy Cline. Mr. Hobson is survived by his wife of 65 years, Ruby Johnson Hobson; 2 daughters, Brenda Scott and husband Wade, and Debora Cline, all of Winston-Salem; 1 brother, Joseph Hobson and wife, Hettalou; 1 granddaughter, Wendy Cruess and husband Greg, of Benson, NC; 1 granddaughter-in-law, Carrie Scott; 5 great grandchildren, Alex, Mason, and Zach Scott and Rachel and Sarah Cruess; many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be 3:00 PM Monday at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with Rev. Joe McWethy and Rev. Billy Martin officiating. Burial will follow in Oaklawn Memorial Gardens with Military Rites by the Yadkin County VFW. The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM to 2:45 PM Monday prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, in memory of Carl Hobson and Brian Scott in care of Kristi McCord, N.C. Chapter 612 Pasteur Dr. Suite 409, Greensboro, NC 27403.
