Carl Dempsey Goode

Mr. Carl Dempsey Goode, 94 of Winston-Salem died Sunday, July 5, 2015 at Brookdale High Point North in High Point. He was born January 17, 1921 in Belews Creek (Forsyth County), one of thirteen children, the son of the late James Pinkney and Dorabelle Caudle Goode. Mr. Goode was a 1939 graduate of Walkertown High School and was the first in his family to graduate from High School. On March 4, 1940 he enlisted in the US Army and served in Panama from 1940 until 1943. He was sent to Germany and France to the Forth Infantry Division in 1943 and was wounded in 1945 in France. He was awarded the Purple Heart along with many other medals and is registered in the National Purple Heart Hall of Honor. Following his discharge from the Army in 1945 he returned to Winston-Salem and worked for Western Electric where he was involved in several organizations, retiring in March of 1982. On March 2, 1966 he married Reba Martin Masencup in High Point. He was a member of Bethany Baptist Church in Winston-Salem where he was in the Barrin Sunday School Class and attended there until his health failed. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, nine sisters, two brothers, and one stepson, Henry Michael ""Mike"" Masencup. Survivors include one sister, Paula Jo McDaniel and husband, Jack of Greensboro; two stepdaughters, Gloria Masencup Carroll of Tucson, AZ and Norma Masencup McKelvey of Charleston, SC; four step grandchildren; five step great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews who cared for him. The funeral service will be conducted Thursday at 7:00 PM at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel, 3315 Silas Creek Parkway, Winston-Salem with Rev. Tom Southern officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:30 PM until 6:45 PM prior to the service. A private burial will follow Friday at Forsyth Memorial Park.
